When Your Best Friend Gets Engaged!!!

In a new college with new people, she was sitting next to me on our induction programme. I talked to her first and it was just like those awkward first conversations. And now, seven months later, I almost cried at her engagement. Sukanksha and Rohan's love story. I have lived their journey with them.

Sukanksha, I don't think anyone had gotten so close to me in so little time. I wouldn't have considered in my wildest dreams that anyone else could be my best friend in our college. But, you special person, you broke all the gates and came so close to me. And I'm really grateful to have you in my life. I don't know how we'd have survived if we wouldn't have been there for each other. Our long talks where I tried to solve your love problems are missed. Our gossip writing in notebook during lectures used to be really fun. Our actual 'insanity' over Blank Space was something I will always have a good laugh over. Our R-Mall time-out was something we both needed. Our thinking the same things and saying the same things game is still so strong. I don't know how to say this. But, no matter how much I cherish our memories, they will not be nearly enough for how much I love you!

Rohan, I don't remember when we started talking but when we did, I saw a wise man with a tender heart. You are someone who can give the best advice with logic and sense. I will miss our coffee sessions in college. I will miss our chats about random things. I have a strong telepathy with Suku but when we both do something stupid, you're there to talk sense to us. And sometimes, you are the one with all the insensible winning ideas, you Ad-mad winner. And I promise to take you at least once again to Kelkar canteen, you foodie. Thanks for that mad laughter we had when you confessed that you cried over 'Acha sila diya tune mere pyaar ka' song. That was when we must have laughed like the world was going to end. I think this line will say it all, I'll always be your kid. (Just get me that clone person and an awesome bookshelf the size of England.)

Sukanksha and Rohan, individually you both are great. Together, you are perfect. You are such wierdos. You fight with each other all the time over petty issues. But, when one goes to another state for a trip, you both cry because you can't live without each other for 5 days. I think the most bizarre fight was over the number of supplements in the exam. I mean, seriously? You talk in the 'we' language. Shortly after they were in a relationship, when I asked Sukanksha whether she's going to college. Her reply was, "We are coming." So that sounded dorky then but now I'm adapted to this sweet thing. By the way, you both need to attend lectures! I know there are a million different things that set you both apart but there's that one thing which brings you together. Something that everyone wishes to have. Love.

I'm a pretty leave-me-alone person which makes me hate all get-togethers. I create the most fuss when I am made to dress up for some occasion I'm least interested in going. But, that day was different. From the moment I woke up, I was happy. I woke up and the first thought that came to my head was, "Suku and Rohan are getting engaged today!" I dressed up glowingly and everything. I was actually thinking whether I should put eye liner or not. For me, that's as far as it gets. For the entire ride to her place, I was just nostalgic. And then, I finally reached her home. I knocked on her bedroom. She opened the door. For a split second I didn't realise it was her. She looked so different. In her own words, she looked like a Marwadi princess! I was with her the whole time. And then I went to see Rohan. And he was a handsome prince. Finally, after all the rituals, they saw each other. That first look they shared was priceless. Suku looked so eternally happy. And Rohan was blown away with awe. They looked at each other and there was this transfer of romantic sparks. It was like they were the only ones in the room and no one else mattered as long as they are together. I will never forget that look in my life.
Soon, they both sat together before the ceremony. They were sitting on a royal-ish swing. I was just standing there looking at them in amazement. They were together. And they were just so so happy. At that point, I swear I was going to cry. Then Sukanksha looked at me and mouthed, "Don't cry." And then it was all okay. I was back to beaming happiness.

When one of your best friend gets engaged, it feels great at the beginning when you here the news. But witnessing it happen is something entirely different. You feel all the emotions. You think about how they were strangers a year ago and now they are going to spend their entire lives together. It amazes you. It makes you believe in true love. Even when you've given up on love, it surprises you and you're in love with love itself. Sukanksha and Rohan, I love you guys. And you're the most precious people whom I'll always look up to when I think about love.

  2. Gorgeous and heart felt post. It's different to want to go to something to celebrate people you love, I can usually get out of a "leave me alone" funk for that!

  4. I was so excited the day my best friend got engaged (I helped her fiance plan the proposal down to the last detail) I sobbed like crazy from happiness... then I did the same thing as I stood next to her while she said her vows.

This post reminds me of that feeling of being just 100% truly happy for someone, wonderful.
